OLIVO BARBIERI. MOUNTAINS AND PARKS
Olivo Barbieri captures the contradictions and facets, ambiguities and shades of reality using the expedients of the photographic medium, such as shooting landscape scenes from above, so as to highlight certain elements and leave others blurred. The catalogue of the exhibition curated by Alberto Fiz at Centro Saint-Bénin Center di Aosta (15 November 2019–19 April 2020) traces the artist’s work from 2002 to 2019, with a particular focus on the themes of landscape and the environment.
Unpublished photographs, whose subjects are the Val d’Aosta mountains and natural parks, follow images of Barbieri’s sculpture together with cycles dedicated to ancient and modern art history. In the words of Alberto Fiz, the artist’s interest ‘is to take photography to its extreme consequences by exploring a personal experience of the visible that confronts the viewer with new discoveries’.
