Edited by Bruno Corà and shown on the occasion of the exhibition Mario Surbone. Incisi 1968-1978. Apologhi aurei della divisione e dell’unità held by the CAMUSAC from the 14th of December 2018, the catalogue recreates the artistic experience of Mario Surbone, admired by the critics as a protagonist of abstractionism. The volume contains a repertoire of works that reveal the fervor of an uneasy research started from the second half of the Sixties.
In his works, the etching and cutting of paper, cardboard and metal provoke an objective division of the material which «summons up not only separation, but also the return to unity and wholeness».
They also highlight one of the crucial aspects of this particular production, which is the rediscovery of the dichotomy of light and shadow that «defined by incisions and cuts arise in congenital antinomy and yet without conflict – indeed, in a harmony aiming to give life to mental images».
The bilingual volume that contains texts both in Italian and English ends with three sections dedicated to the artist’s biography, the exhibitions and a selected bibliography.
