MARCO BENEFIAL NEL DUOMO DI CITTÀ DI CASTELLO
The analysis of the 1745 Marco Benefial’s unpublished manuscript (1684-1764) represents the introduction to the detailed study of Corrado Rossini on the roman artist’s frescoes situated in the Tribune of the Cathedral of Città di Castello. Moreover, the study traces the commissions and analyses the most important paintings made by the artist during his whole artistic career, which are provided with comments and bibliographical references. By introducing two unpublished sketches, Corrado Rossini’s essay proceeds through iconographic juxtapositions and critical and art-historical analyses of the major themes and figures represented in Benefial works. A detailed anthological and bibliographical apparatus ends the book together with the technical reports of the pictorial and architectural restorations done.
