‘There is a time that slips away and a time that draws near. My father had died but he returned in my art.’ (Michelangelo Pistoletto)
The archetypal relationship between father and son, namely between the art of Michelangelo Pistoletto and that of Ettore Pistoletto Olivero, enables us to reinterpret their past exchanges by going beyond the private and familial aspects of their relationship. The exhibition catalogue (Ettore Pistoletto Olivero | Michelangelo Pistoletto. Father and Son, April 17–October 13, 2019, curated by Alberto Fiz in Biella and Trivero, at the premises of Palazzo Gromo Losa, Cittadellarte–Fondazione Pistoletto and Casa Zegna), contains essays and research on the two artists and on current themes, with contributions from experts from various fields, such as art history and psychoanalysis, among them Alberto Fiz and Massimo Recalcati. The book also includes an interview with Michelangelo Pistoletto, texts on specific themes, and a complete series of illustrations documenting the exhibition route. Ettore Olivero’s still lifes and the artworks of Michelangelo Pistoletto, one of the greatest contemporary masters, interact on the theme of a mirror that ‘indicates the impossibility of progressing without considering what lies behind us: the reflection of the past’.
