EMILIO SCANAVINO. GENESI DELLE FORME / THE ORIGIN OF SHAPES
This is how Emilio Scanavino described his gift for photography, a practice he greatly loved and which this book presents for the first time in examples selected from the many archival materials. Critical essays by curators Cristina Casero and Elisabetta Longari interpret the work in this collection that records the Emilio Scanavino: Genesis of Forms exhibition at Palazzo Pigorini, Parma (9 November–15 December 2019).
What interested Scanavino was not the aesthetic or formal quality of the shots, but the medium of photography as a tool for the study and analysis of the vast visual universe he found in walls and stones, ropes, barbed wire, grafts and insects. The volume also includes a selection of Scanavino’s original works, which together with the photos provide a vibrant path of discovery.
