Following the fundamental elements of his work, which are the wound, the shadow and the ash, the author traces all the artist’s steps of his mysterious and introverted art. «Parmiggiani’s work does not flirt with a metaphysical spiritualism pitted against material things; it is all made of material. The shattered glass, the butterflies, the dismembered boats, the cloths and bandages, the coloured pigments, the wood, the fragments of classical statuary, the musical instruments, the pots and stones, papers and newspapers, the organs of the human body. The materials that constitute the world of mankind are admitted in the naked existence not as the token of a curse that awaits recompense, but as a miracle of presences that in some mysterious way are bound up together and are interrelated against the backdrop of the law of time and of language.»
